Footnotes and endnotes
Insert a footnote or endnote from References. Each note has an anchor in the manuscript and a durable identity in the project. The Notes workspace lets you search, filter, edit, jump to anchors, and convert note types while numbering stays connected.
When to use each type
Use for brief context, source details, or commentary that belongs close to the page where it is called.
Use when a quieter page is more important than immediate access to every note.
Use the References workspace when a source needs a stable citation record rather than only a paragraph note.
Table of contents and cross-references
Headings and section titles drive the contents creator. Before publishing, update generated contents and page-dependent fields after the final structural change. The project preserves references across sections so a contents entry can follow a chapter even when pagination moves.
Open the exported artifact and verify at least one note backlink, one contents entry, and one reference. A successful export should be readable on its own.
