Structure
Give every part of the book a clear role.
Book-aware structure is what lets OYAMA Scribe handle chapter starts, matter groups, numbering, contents, and exports without guesswork.
Matter groups
Use Front Matter for title pages, copyright, dedication, and contents. Use Body for the main chapters. Use Back Matter for acknowledgements, references, appendices, and author material. The groups are organizational and production-aware; they do not prevent you from making a book with an unusual order.

Chapter starts and recto logic
In Book Design, you can set chapters to begin on the next page or the next recto. When a recto start requires an intentional blank, the proof views label it as Blank page so the page is explainable during review. That label is a screen-only aid and is never exported.
Rename and reorder safely
- Select a section in Book Structure.
- Use Rename to update its structural title and any connected running title references.
- Move it with the up/down controls; the book navigator updates the reading order.
- Delete only after checking the confirmation text. Undo delete remains available while the window is open.
Table of contents
Open References → Table of Contents Creator. Choose which matter groups and heading levels participate, whether page numbers appear, and where the generated contents section belongs. Update it before publishing when your heading structure or pagination changes.
